Ivoclar Joy in Africa

Ghana

Under the project lead of Dr. med. dent. Philipp Schneider, together with project supervisor Dr. Chakib Taleb and local specialists, treatments as well as training and educational activities are carried out in Ghana. They train the outreach team, monitor the technical and organizational aspects of the missions and train local specialists.

The focus is on the cooperation with the Richard Novati Catholic Hospital (RNCH) in Sogakofe, a small town in the south-east of Ghana. It forms the basic structure for our outreach team. Ivoclar Joy's aim is to establish a professional and efficient workflow between the clinic and the laboratory and to avoid product waste because of inadequate techniques or a lack of know-how.

In the laboratory donated and equipped by the Zurich dental technician Hans-Peter Spielmann, modern dental work can be produced by local people and future African specialists can be trained thanks to the technical support of our project responsible. The laboratory meets the highest Swiss standards.

Our prevention programs in the form of training and educational activities have already been implemented regularly at several schools, including a school for children with special needs. The focus of our educational activities is on healthy eating, avoiding refined sugary foods, proper tooth brushing techniques and the urgency of regular dental check-ups.
