Ivoclar presents the new IPS e.max® ZirCAD Prime block: The next level of speed and strength

Schaan, Liechtenstein – 24 March 2025

On the occasion of IDS 2025, Ivoclar is presenting its new IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime block – the latest addition to the IPS e.max product family. With this innovative zirconia block, the Liechtenstein-based company takes speed, strength and esthetics in chairside CAD/CAM fabrication of monolithic crowns to a new level.

High-strength zirconia restorations fabricated in no time

The IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime block sets new standards in the chairside fabrication of monolithic zirconium oxide restorations in single-visit treatments and significantly reduces production time thanks to speed sintering. In just 15 minutes[1], dentists can sinter high-quality zirconium oxide restorations, which considerably shortens the treatment time for patients. High production efficiency enables single-visit treatments without compromising on quality. Despite short sintering times, the material’s excellent translucency and strength remain unparalleled: With its impressive flexural strength of 1,100 MPa[2], the IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime block allows wall thicknesses to be reduced to just 0.8 mm for crowns. This enables tooth-preserving preparations and facilitates minimally invasive treatments. As a result, patients benefit from long-lasting, durable restorations with a truly lifelike appearance. The ability to quickly fabricate high-quality restorations streamlines workflows in the dental practice while ensuring a positive treatment experience for patients.

A block that combines esthetics and versatility

Another truly outstanding feature of the IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime block is its esthetics, achieved through a natural progression of shade and translucency from the dentin to the incisal edge. The specially developed material technology allows for a seamless transition of the high-strength 3Y-TZP material in the dentin area to the translucent 5Y-PSZ material in the incisal area. This progression enables a harmonious shade adaptation to the natural tooth structure. The eleven available shades – ranging from classic tooth shades to Bleach shades – provide a wide range of adaptation options for individual patient needs. Furthermore, the IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime block stands out for its versatile finishing options. Restorations can be polished, glazed or characterized, depending on the individual case.

High-gloss in no time

The OptraGloss Extra Oral polishers are another new product from Ivoclar. These polishers are ideal for finishing oxide and glass ceramics such as IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime, IPS e.max CAD and Empress CAD. From unpolished restorations to a high gloss in just a few minutes, OptraGloss Extra Oral polishers allow for further workflow optimizations thanks to their easy application.

An efficient chairside CAD/CAM workflow – from fabrication to cementation

Within the end-to-end workflow, the innovative material technology of the IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime blocks enables the efficient fabrication of monolithic zirconia restorations. Particularly noteworthy is the shortened sintering process in the Programat CS6 combination furnace, that speed sinters IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime restorations quickly and reliably in only 15 minutes[1]. In addition, the OptraGloss Extra Oral polishers deliver an impeccable gloss and smooth surfaces in only two working steps, eliminating the need for glaze firing. This further simplifies and streamlines the workflow – without compromising on quality and esthetics. Thanks to ZirCAD Cement, the conventional cementation of zirconia restorations is straightforward and time-saving. In addition, the IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime block impresses with its flexible choice of cementation protocols: Depending on the clinical situation and the dentist’s preference, restorations can be cemented using conventional, self-adhesive or adhesive cementation methods. The well-coordinated workflow further enhances the efficiency in day-to-day procedures, enabling faster single-visit treatments of patients while delivering high-quality, esthetic results.

The IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime block is being introduced gradually in European countries by mid-2025. More information on the new IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime zirconium oxide block from Ivoclar can be found at www.ivoclar.com/ips-e.max-zircad-prime-block
